This tour highlighted the amazing history of Sicily. It was conquered over many centuries by many cultures. This multilayered history is evident in the architecture, monuments, and food. A wonderful culture is the result.
Lee and I had a wonderful tour of Sicily – touring the entire island over nine days. It was essentially a private tour. Just the two of us on most days, four folks on a few legs of the trip. Private drivers and guides. The tour started and ended in Palermo.
We visited Monreale, Erice, and Marsala (yes, we tasted the vino!) from Palermo. We then headed to Siracusa with stops in the Valley of the Temples (Agrigento) and the Piazza Armerina (4th c AD).
In Siracusa, we visited the Archaeological Park (Greek Theater and Roman Amphitheater) and the old city streets of Ortygia Island. We then headed north to Taormina with stops in Ragusa and Noto. Taormina is a resort town, and we spent the day wandering.
We ended back in Palermo via beautiful views in Cefalù.
